Narrator: Rama shows his affection for Sita by attempting to bend a bow. No one else can even lift the bow, but as Rama bends it, he breaks it into two.
Sita: By bending this bow, you will be my bridegroom.
Rama: This is no problem for me, I will easily take your and in marriage.
Sita: I will put this garland around you, symbolizing our marriage.
Narrator: King Dasharatha, Rama’s father, gives the throne to Rama, and retires to seek moksha. This plan fulfills the rules of dharma because the eldest son should rule when the previous king seeks moksha. Everyone is pleased about this except the king’s second wife. She wants her son Bharata to rule. Because of a previous agreement between King Dasharatha and the second wife, Bharata is crowned king, and Rama is banished for fourteen years. Because of this news, Dasharatha forces Kaikeyi to tell Rama the news.
Step-Mother: You promised me years ago that my son, Bharata, would one day be King King Dasharatha: Are you saying that I shall banish my eldest son, Rama from this kingdom?
Stepmother: Yes, I force you to exile Rama for fourteen years and make Bharata king.
Narrator: Rama, the obedient and willing person that he is goes into banishment because it is his Dharma. Sita then convinces Rama she belongs with him. Rama’s brother Lakshman joins them in the forest. Meanwhile, Bharata is very upset when he finds out what happened. He then goes to Rama and begs him to return and rule the kingdom
Rama: We must obey father
Bharata: I will take these sandals and I will put these on the throne and every day I shall place the fruits of my work at the feet on my lord.
Narrator: He hugs Rama, takes the sandals and goes back Aydohya.
Narrator: Many years pass when Rama, Sita, and Lakshman live happily in the forest. There they destroy the evil creatures that disturb the sages in their meditations. (A Rakshasa princes tries to seduce Rama, Lakshman wounds her and drives her away. She then returns to her brother Ravana who was a ten headed ruler of Lanka, and tells her brother about the lovely Sita.)
Ravana: (Talks to himself) I have a plan to abduct Sita (while writing on the whiteboard). Comes up with the idea to send a golden deer. (Rama and Lakshman put a protective circle around Sita and go after the deer.) Narrator: Ravana then changes shape into a holy man begging alms. As soon as Sita leaves the circle, Ravana grabs her and carries her off his kingdom of Lankha. (Rama is then broken hearted when he returns to the hut and cant be found, band of monkeys offer to help find Sita.)
Ravana: Marry me now!
Sita: No, I am in love with Rama!
Ravana: You will never see him again, its best if you just marry me now! (Sita wont even look at him but thinks only of her beloved Rama.)
(General of the monkeys finds Sita and tells her that Rama will soon come and save her, Ravana’s men the capture the monkey leader and set his tail on fire.)
(While his tail is on fire, he jumps from house to house burning the whole kingdom. Then he flies back to Rama to tell him where Sita is.)
Narrator: Rama, Lakshman and the monkey army build a path through the tip of India to Lanka and cross over to Lanka. Then a battle ensues and Rama kills several of Ravanas brothers. Rama then confronts Ravana. Rama then kills Ravana.
(Rama frees Sita. After Sita proves her purity they return to Ayodhya and Rama becomes the king.)
